CONSULTATIONS

The Initial Consultation

An initial consultation with me will last an hour, with subsequent follow-up consultations lasting around forty-five minutes. An initial consultation with me involves taking a detailed medical history to get a complete picture of your primary health concern and fully understand how it is impacting you, as well as a chance for us to explore your past medical history.

This initial consultation will be in-depth and non-rushed; this is because I want to ensure you are heard. You’ll be able to take your time sharing your personal health story, to enable me to really understand what is going on for you and establish what herbs will fit well with you. All information shared during consultations will be confidential.

Your Herbal Medicine

Following your initial consultation, I then write up a plan, of what needs to take place to support your health, and write your bespoke herbal prescription. A hand-blended herbal prescription will be dispensed in the form of a tincture, herbal tea, cream or capsules, alongside relevant nutrition and lifestyle advice given.

Each prescription is made from organic or biodynamic herbs sourced from trusted herbal suppliers or grown, foraged and handmade by myself. Your medicine will then be posted to you, or in some cases, will be available for collection upon agreement.

FOLLOW UPS:

After your Initial consultation and starting on your herbal prescription, we will then check in for regular shorter follow-up consultations (usually every month) to allow us to track your progress, review your response to the herbs, and adjust the prescription where needed. How long follow-ups are repeated will be discussed on a case-by-case basis and can be repeated for as long as desired.

Many people develop a greater awareness and understanding of their health during their routine follow-up consultations and find that these sessions are just as important and supportive as the medicine itself.

Further Questions Answered:

Qualified herbalists are trained in herb-drug interactions and ensure that the herbs you are prescribed will not negatively interact with any medication you’re taking. During your consultation, we will cover what medications and supplements you take.

There is no definitive answer to this question, as we are all unique, with so many variables that will influence treatment duration. Influential factors affecting the length of treatment required include:

  • The condition
  • The severity
  • How long you have had the condition
  • Your past medical history and current health status
  • Drug history

However, for acute, self-limiting health issues (such as hay fever or a common cold), 1-2 appointments may be enough. Long-term health issues and chronic health matters will take longer. Some people choose to take herbs for health issues for years to manage chronic symptoms. How long you will need follow-ups will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Yes. A registered Herbalist cannot sell you herbs without a consultation first. This is to make sure that you’ll always be getting the herbs that are suited to you and are compatible with any other medications you are taking, any additional health conditions or any allergies.

Yes. While herbalism and homoeopathy both use plants in their medicines, there are very distinct differences between the two.

Homeopathy uses natural substances (including plants, minerals and some animal products) to create medicines that have been diluted, often beyond the point where any active plant phytochemicals (biologically active compounds found in plants) of the original substance remain. It is based on a philosophy of ‘like cures like’.

Herbal medicine, uses whole plant extracts containing measurable active phytochemicals at therapeutic strengths. Herbalists harness known and studied active phytochemicals within these extracts to support specific physiological processes to aid health and healing.
